Omar says Israel policy divisions won’t stop her from supporting Biden in November

Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) said that even though she and President Biden have policy differences toward Israel, that won’t stop her from supporting him in the November general election.

“of course,” Omar said on Tuesday. When asked by CNN’s Abby Phillippe on “Newsnight” if she would vote for Biden if the election were held that day, she responded in a clip highlighted by Mediaite. “Democracy is at stake and we are confronting fascism.”

“And I personally know what Trump’s life was like as president of this country and what it was like for my constituents and for people in this country and around the world.” I know what it felt like,” Omar continued. “We must do everything in our power to prevent something like this from happening again.”

Omar, a strong supporter of the Gaza ceasefire, accused the Biden administration of “green-lighting the slaughter of Palestinians” in a press conference last month. She went after the Biden administration for approving additional aid to Israel without Congressional approval.

“This administration cannot green-light the slaughter of Palestinians and still claim to be an honest peace broker. Replenishing Israel’s arsenal is not foreign policy. It is defenseless people who just want to live in peace. This is state-sponsored violence perpetrated against a family of thousands of people,” Omar said.

In the same Tuesday interview, Omar also accused White House national security adviser Jake Sullivan of not sharing the “big picture” on the Gaza ceasefire talks.

“He’s saying he’s not telling the whole story,” Omar said. “I don’t know if he’s being honest, but it certainly doesn’t match the current reporting that’s coming out of the negotiation effort.”

A clip of Mr. Sullivan was played at the beginning of the interview. “For those who want a ceasefire in Gaza, the ceasefire is on the table for six weeks of negotiations today, and we are here to build on it,” Sullivan said. . If Hamas could easily release women, the injured, and the elderly, it would be bearable. ”

“And the fact that they don’t does that tells me a lot about Hamas’ care for innocent Palestinian civilians,” Sullivan continued.
