The name of the first Israeli Defense Force (IDF) soldier killed in action during the Third Lebanon War has been announced. Eitan Yitzchak Oster is a 22-year-old special forces soldier from Makkabim Modi'in Reut in central Israel.
Army Radio said Oster, a member of Egoz's elite unit, was wounded in a fight with Hezbollah terrorists inside a building in a village in southern Lebanon after Wednesday's Israeli invasion.
Army Radio said Oster was shot and received medical treatment.
Egoz's forces are part of the 98th Division, which the IDF says is fighting terrorists at close range, seizing weapons stockpiles and destroying Hezbollah infrastructure.
In a recent video that went viral on social media, Oster talked about his motivations for fighting: “People don't fight out of hatred for what's in front of them, they fight out of love for what's behind them. He can be seen saying, “No.''
According to the Israel Defense Forces, Oster was posthumously promoted from lieutenant to colonel.
More than 700 Israeli soldiers have died since the October 7 Hamas terrorist attack, including more than 300 killed on the first day of fighting and more than 400 killed in fighting in Gaza.
Casualties in Lebanon are expected to rise further, but Israelis decide national security is worth the price, with more than 60,000 northern Israeli residents displaced by Hezbollah attacks. He is determined to return home.
