A pickup truck driver involved in a tragic accident near Yellowstone National Park has been identified. The man, Isaih Moreno, 25 years old, hails from Texas.
This devastating crash occurred on Thursday evening, about 16 miles from the park’s entrance, resulting in the loss of seven lives.
Yellowstone, while primarily in Wyoming, also stretches into parts of Idaho and Montana. The collision involved Moreno’s Dodge Ram pickup traveling west and a tour van filled with 14 international tourists heading east.
Unfortunately, details about the other victims haven’t been released yet.
Idaho Police mentioned, “Due to the complexity of the incident, it takes time to identify all individuals involved and notify close relatives.”
Coroner Brenda Dye indicated that the other six victims suffered severe burns, making identification difficult. Authorities are awaiting DNA test results to confirm their identities, noting all were foreigners, including two from Italy.
Moreover, the Chinese Consulate in San Francisco reported that five Chinese citizens lost their lives in the accident, with eight others sustaining injuries.
According to Xinhua News, “The Consulate expressed deep sadness regarding the deceased and heartfelt sympathy for the families of the injured and affected.”
The survivors are currently receiving treatment at a nearby hospital with injuries considered potentially life-threatening.
This stretch of highway has gained a reputation for being quite dangerous and heavily trafficked.
Tour vans are a usual sight in areas leading to the Yellowstone entrance.
Idaho Governor Brad Little took to social media, stating the state is collaborating with local authorities to uncover “answers about what led to this horrifying tragedy.”
As of now, the exact cause of the crash remains under investigation.
