OneRepublic's founder is campaigning for California lieutenant governor to stand up to Trump.

Tim Myers, co-founder and former bassist of OnerePublic, announced his campaign for lieutenant governor of California this past Monday.

On his campaign website, he pointed to a “broken political system” and “Trump’s attack on California” as motivators for his decision.

“He stands against the Trump administration’s challenges and aims to offer pragmatic solutions, bringing a fresh and robust voice to the governor’s office so that every Californian can pursue their dreams and feel secure,” the site states.

Earlier, in April, Myers had expressed his intention to run for the US House of Representatives.

He shared more about his change in direction in an Instagram post on Monday.

Myers commented on the turmoil he sees firsthand: “I’ve talked to neighbors and friends who’ve lost their homes and small businesses. The homeless issue has become more pronounced. It’s not just happening in my own backyard. This is coming from Trump and his billionaire allies.”

On a recent episode of TMZ Live, he criticized his competitors for lieutenant governor, accusing them of not genuinely standing up for the people and instead using their position to advance politically.

“All of the candidates for lieutenant governor appear to be using this role as a stepping stone to higher office,” he remarked.

Myers added, “The only ladder I care about is the one that workers in California are trying to climb. They’re struggling to buy homes, afford groceries, or fill up their gas tanks. It’s frankly shameful for other candidates to express a desire to be governor while ignoring these issues.”

The election for lieutenant governor is scheduled for November.

In related news, Ryan Tedder, Myers’ fellow Onerepublic co-founder, faced criticism last month for a post defending a military parade commemorating the 250th anniversary of the US Army. He emphasized the importance of recognizing those who served, regardless of political affiliations, in a later-deleted Instagram story.

His sentiments echoed a desire to honor service members, saying, “We should be celebrating our Army and those who gave their lives for our freedom, not protesting.”
