NFL Training Camps Set to Open
This week marks the start of training camps across the NFL, with the Detroit Lions and Los Angeles Chargers set to meet in Canton, Ohio on July 31st, officially ushering in the preseason.
As anticipation builds for the 2025 season, there’s a chance that at least one prominent running back might be sitting out in August. Joe Mixon from the Houston Texans is facing ongoing ankle issues that are likely to keep him away from preseason activities.
Reports suggest that Mixon’s two-time Pro Bowl status may be in jeopardy as he recovers. His team is scheduled to kick off their season on September 7th against the Los Angeles Rams.
Mixon has begun training camp on a non-football injury list after struggling with an ankle injury prior to the offseason. Interestingly, he didn’t participate in the mini-camp either.
This isn’t the first instance where Mixon has had to deal with ankle problems. Last season, he missed three games due to similar issues. He also faced a concussion that kept him out for two games in 2022. In 2021, despite suffering some sprains, he managed to play in 16 games. Unfortunately, a foot injury mid-way through the 2020 season cut his year short.
At 29, Mixon enjoyed a solid 2024, rushing for 1,016 yards and securing 11 touchdowns. To bolster their running back corps, the Texans signed All-Pro Nick Chubb this offseason and used their fourth draft selection on Woodymark.
The Texans’ preseason game is slated for August 9th, where they will face the Minnesota Vikings.
