House Republicans are set to reconvene tonight as they search for a way to advance President Trump’s “big and beautiful bill,” which faced obstacles on Friday.
A group of five Finance Hawks blocked the proposal from the House Budget Committee.
Some GOP lawmakers who opposed the endorsement of the “One Big Beautiful Bill Act” (OBBB) include those in leadership roles. Rep. Lloyd Smucker (Pa.) initially supported the bill but later changed his vote due to procedural actions.
House Republican leaders are eager to pass the legislation before the upcoming anniversary deadline.
Meanwhile, President Trump has stood by his decision to accept a lavish Boeing 747-8 jet from the Qatar Royal Family.
This aircraft is meant for the Department of Defense and is expected to replace the aging Air Force One, which has been in service for over three decades.
The acquisition has sparked safety and ethical concerns among both Democrats and Republicans.
Democrats are dealing with a different set of issues as questions regarding former President Biden’s mental acuity resurface. Parts of the new book “Original Crime: President Biden’s Decline, His Cover-up, and His Devastating Choice” by CNN’s Jaktapper and Axios’ Alex Thompson have been featured in several outlets this week, criticizing Biden’s inner circle and taking note of the apparent issues some of his staff have acknowledged.
