A mom is raising eyebrows with her unconventional gift idea for a birthday party.
While helping clean up after a gathering is one thing, showing up with a bag of cleaning supplies as a “gift” certainly takes it to another level.
“This is a child’s birthday party, and the last thing I want to do is give gifts for kids that ultimately just end up in the trash…” she mentioned in a video.
So, instead of a traditional gift for her child, what did she bring?
She arrived with a bag filled with cleaning products.
“You go to a party, and everyone wants to help, but then no one knows where the cleaning supplies are. I bring a cleaning rag… I want to bring dish soap… Finding cleaning supplies in someone else’s home can be tricky,” the determined mom explained.
This gesture can be interpreted in two ways: either it’s a thoughtful approach or decidedly intrusive.
And people on TikTok had quite differing opinions about it.
“This is really considerate. As a mom, I appreciate this,” one comment read.
Conversely, another commenter said, “This is quite strange, to be honest.”
Yet another chimed in, “I think it’s actually a really cool idea.”
On the flip side, someone criticized, “What a terrible idea! Bringing cleaning products to a host’s house is just embarrassing. Nobody needs those!”
Such contrasting views really highlight the divide on this topic.
In a follow-up video, the mom clarified that her cleaning stash was not meant as an actual gift.
“What I really gave my kids was quality time with their parents, so at the end of the party, the other parents don’t have to deal with cleaning,” she defended her choice.
Unfortunately, even after her explanation, commenters remained steadfast in their opinions.
“Families manage on their own. Honestly, I don’t think kids will appreciate this gift. It’s less about money and more about what really matters to them,” someone pointed out.
Another upset commenter replied, “Please don’t let anyone give that to your child. You can do both—help out and still get your child a gift. This is just absurd.”
