As President Biden's term draws to a close, only one in four Americans consider him a “great or better” commander-in-chief, more than either of his two immediate predecessors. There are also far fewer.
An AP-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research poll released Friday also found that only 22% of Americans believe Biden, 82, has fulfilled his campaign promises while in office.
Among the rest of the nation, 39% of Americans said Mr. Biden had “tried to keep his promises, but failed to do so,” and another 38% said they were less charitable toward the outgoing 46th president. I answered.
By contrast, 36% said Donald Trump was an “excellent or good” president during his first term, and 52% had high praise for Barack Obama during his eight years in office.
Half of Democrats said Biden was “great or good,” but only 10% of independents and 4% of Republicans said the same.
Similarly, 42% of Democrats say Biden has kept his promises while in office, compared to 12% of independents and 4% of Republicans.
Biden's overall approval rating in the poll is 39%, up one point from the lowest point of his term in January 2024, but down 22 points since he took office in January 2021.
A plurality of voters also say things have gotten worse for themselves, their families (38%) and the U.S. as a whole (46%) since Biden took office.
More than half of respondents said Biden had a negative impact on the cost of living (58%), immigration (56%) and the Israel-Hamas war (52%).
The poll was conducted among 1,251 U.S. adults from December 5th to 9th.
The margin of error was plus or minus 3.7 percentage points.
