Just 24% of independent voters think President Joe Biden will secure re-election in November, a YouGov poll found this week.
The poll asked respondents, “Regardless of your preference, who do you think would win the presidential election if Joe Biden were the Democratic nominee and Donald Trump was the Republican nominee?”
Less than a quarter of independents said Biden would beat Trump, and only three-quarters of Democrats predicted a Biden victory.
- Independents: 24%
- Democratic Party: 72%
- Republican: 9%
Among Democrats planning to vote for Biden in 2024, only 78% believe he will win. By contrast, 85% of voters who intended to support Trump believed he would win, by a 7-point margin.
Overall, a plurality of voters said Trump would beat Biden in 2024.
- Trump: 44%
- Biden: 37%
- Don’t know: 19%
Only some black voters believe Biden will win. Mr. Biden did not receive such support from other demographics.
- Biden wins: 62%
- Trump wins: 18%
- Undecided: 21%
