Sen. Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) said Sunday on ABC’s “This Week” that only Democrats can bring about tighter controls on the U.S.-Mexico border.
Jonathan Carle of Accor said: You could also cite the latest Quinnipiac report showing that polls show that an overwhelming majority of Americans disapprove of President Biden’s handling of the border crisis, and that cross-border traffic has slowed under the president. It has also been confirmed that the number of cases has increased dramatically.
“What we know is that under President Donald Trump’s administration, the number of people crossing border crossings is at its highest level in a decade, and that’s exactly why,” Murphy said. I think the president and the Democratic Party should go on the offensive, because the majority of the country believes that we should have a strong acceptance of legal immigration, but they want tighter border controls. And right now. Now, there’s only one party that can make that happen: Democrats are the only party that supports a path to citizenship, and supports expanded domestic legal recourse and tough border laws.”
He added, “Republicans have tried to use immigration to divide us, and now they oppose the toughest border reform bill on record in decades, a border security bill.”
