Sen. Lindsey Graham (RS.C.) on Tuesday slammed pro-Palestinian protesters on college campuses as “idiots” and “terrorist sympathizers” and called for an investigation into who is funding the protests. requested the Ministry of Justice.
“There are two classes of people here. Anti-Semites: If you mean it when you say, ‘We are Hamas,’ you are a religious Nazi. “If you say, ‘We are Hamas,’ and you don’t know what Hamas is, you’re an idiot,” Graham said. During an interview on Fox News In “Jesse Watters Prime Time”.
“There are idiots and there are supporters of terrorism. How do we solve this?” he said. “Win in November”
Graham said the best way to crack down on pro-Palestinian protests on campus is to investigate who is funding them, something former President Trump will make a top priority if re-elected. I swore I would try.
“Here’s what I can promise you: If Donald Trump were president of the United States, his attorney general would take up this whole issue. “You’re going to be confronted,” he said.
The House of Representatives passed the Anti-Semitism Awareness Act last week, directing the Department of Education to adopt the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance’s working definition of anti-Semitism to review discrimination claims.
This bill is currently being considered in the Senate. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer of New York told reporters last week that there was opposition from “both sides” of the bill moving forward.
But some Republicans, like Graham, want more scrutiny of groups supporting the protests.
Lara Trump, co-chair of the Republican National Committee, said last week that Democratic megadonor George Soros is “funding a lot of this and confusing things.”
“We know he loves to upset people and put money into things that cause situations like this,” she said on the podcast.
She provided no evidence that Soros was actually funding the protests.
Speaker Mike Johnson (R-Louisiana) has also recently questioned whether Soros or another group is behind the protests, as many of the tents set up by demonstrators on various campuses appear to be the same model. He suggested that it might be.
“I think [FBI officials] “We need to look into the root cause and find out whether some of it was funded by George Soros or foreign entities,” Johnson speculated. during the interview upon NewsNation’s “The Hill” program.
The claim drew sharp criticism from House Democrats, who argued that portraying Soros, who is Jewish, as some sort of evil mastermind is itself an anti-Semitic trope.
“Less than 24 hours after passing a do-nothing bill under the guise of ‘fighting anti-Semitism,’ @SpeakerJohnson has dragged out one of the world’s oldest anti-Semitic metaphors,” Jerry said. Congressman Nadler (New York) Post on social platform X.
