Ons Jabeur beat by 16-year-old Mirra Andreeva at Australian Open

MELBOURNE, Australia — Sixth-seeded Ons Jabour was eliminated in the second round of the Australian Open on Wednesday, losing 6-0, 6-2 to 16-year-old Mila Andreeva.

The teenager, who finished runner-up in the junior event here last year, took advantage of 24 unforced errors by last year's Wimbledon runner-up to win in just 54 minutes.

Andreeva also had the distinction of being the first player to reach the third round at Melbourne Park this year.

“I was very nervous before the match because I am very inspired by Ons and her play,” Andreeva said. “Before I joined her on the WTA Tour, I always watched her matches and she was always so inspiring. Now I have the opportunity to play against her.”

The match was played under the roof of Rod Laver Arena, with rain delaying the start of the match on the outdoor court by several hours.

Defending champion Novak Djokovic and Aryna Sabalenka will headline a night match later on Wednesday, three days after the first ever Sunday at Melbourne Park.
