OpenAI, News Corp. sign multi-year global partnership

OpenAI, the creator of ChatGPT, has signed a multi-year agreement with News Corp. to use the global media company’s content in its generative artificial intelligence products.

The deal will allow Microsoft-backed OpenAI to display editorials from News Corp’s flagship publications to answer user questions and power its AI tools with current and archived content from multiple media outlets.

The partnership will enable OpenAI to use content from several News Corp news outlets, including the Wall Street Journal, Barron’s, MarketWatch and the New York Post in the US; as well as outside the UK titles such as The Times and The Sun; and several Australian publications, including The Herald Sun and The Courier Mail.

News Corp. will also share its journalism expertise with OpenAI as part of the deal, helping ensure the highest journalistic standards across the AI ​​startup’s products.

News Corp. was launched by media mogul Rupert Murdoch, who also founded Fox Corp, the parent company of Fox News and Fox Business. Murdoch currently serves as chairman emeritus of both companies, while his son, Lachlan Murdoch, serves as sole chairman of both companies.
