OPM: 75,000 workers took Trump, Musk government buyout

Approximately 75,000 federal workers in the government are receiving unusual deals led by the Trump administration as they appear to accept offers to buy and reduce the federal workforce.

Officials in the senior administration confirmed the figures hours after the court rejected a union bid to cancel the program.

The court's ruling allowed the government to officially close what is known as the Fork in the Road program.

With the acquisition, federal workers have provided eight months of pay and benefits to those who wish to leave the government to return to their mission and stay ahead.

This figure — 3.75% of the country's 2 million federal employees — is below the 5% to 10% forecast of federal employees the White House had hoped to trade.

“OPM is pleased that the court has refused any desperate efforts to beat the postponed resignation program,” authorities said Wednesday.

“The program was carefully designed, thoroughly reviewed and provided generous benefits, allowing federal workers to plan their futures.”

Semafor first reported the numbers.

The union warned employees not to make unusual offers.

The numerous provisions in the accompanying contract are inconsistent with the promises made by the OPM, and employees do not need to report to work, and are unable to freely seek outside employment as the agency claims. It is unknown whether or not.

Critics also raised legal and logistical challenges.

The government is currently only funded until March, raising concerns about whether the funds needed to support its commitment to employees will be realized. That dynamic could violate the Anti-Success Act, which prohibits spending beyond what is directed in the budget, requiring the use of federal funds as intended.

The federal judge rejected the union's appeal to block the program and found himself in no position to sue.

“We continue to argue for several days that it is illegal to force American citizens who have dedicated their careers to public services in a few days, whether to uproot their families and quit their careers without proper information. The Everett Kelly Federation of the US Government said in a statement after the court's ruling.
