A memo from the Human Resources Administration Office (OPM) on Wednesday directs the government to take over plans for a wide range of federal employees by March 13th.
Noteproviding more specific guidance since President Trump mandated layoffs on February 11, demanding agencies break the plans for agency cuts (RIF) and broader restructuring.
“According to the President's direction, agencies should focus on the maximum elimination of non-legally required features, whilst promoting the highest quality and most efficient delivery of statutory required functions.” OPM wrote in a note.
The memo directs agents to work together with “the government efficiency ('DOGE') team leading within the agency.”
Among the proposed methods to reduce employees is considering “positions not normally designated as essential during expenditure lapses.”
The memo also suggests that the agency will “close and/or integrate local field offices to an extent consistent with efficient service delivery. Maximize the use of external consultants and contractors .”
Agents are instructed to weigh “agent or not” [itself] Alternatively, one of its subcomponents must be eliminated or integrated. ”
