Trump Meets with Hungarian Prime Minister Orbán

President Donald Trump welcomed Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán to the White House on Friday, expressing admiration for him as a “good man” and a “great leader.”

The leaders touched on various topics, including trade, the situation in Ukraine, and energy concerns. However, they notably focused on immigration and faith, which they believe uniquely distinguish Hungary from other European nations.

Trump criticized what he described as major immigration mistakes made by several European countries, asserting that Hungary has remained steadfast and error-free in this regard. Despite Orbán’s controversial reputation, Trump stated that he commands respect and is anticipated to win the 2026 election against a liberal challenger.

In response to Trump’s praise of conservative nationalism, Orbán emphasized his government’s identity, declaring it “the only modern Christian government in Europe,” in contrast to the predominantly liberal governments in the region.

Orbán pointed out that since his re-election in 2010, his administration has sought to establish a distinct presence philosophically and practically within Europe.

“We see ourselves as a modern Christian government, standing out in Europe,” he elaborated.

Orbán has never shied away from expressing his disdain for the European Union’s secular leadership. He has publicly criticized the EU, suggesting it faces myriad issues related to debt, migration, and violence. Hungary positions itself as anti-migrant and pro-family, advocating for policies that support hard-working individuals.

His government has enforced various measures over the years, including bans on LGBT content aimed at children and tough immigration policies. Orbán has also implemented initiatives to promote childbirth, reflecting a commitment to traditional family values.

He reiterated the desire for a “Christian Europe,” stating that this approach aligns with Hungary’s historical battles for national and cultural survival.
