The debate over whether it's fair to allow transgender women to play sports with athletes of the same gender continues to spark outrage. Whether at the high school, college, or professional level, the debate has been intense.
In April, the Biden administration introduced new Title IX regulations that expand the meaning of sex discrimination to include gender identity and prevent schools and universities from banning transgender athletes. Under the department's proposed rules, schools and universities receiving federal funding would have a “one-size-fits-all” policy that would categorically prohibit transgender students from playing on sports teams that correspond with their gender identity. Imposing policies is not allowed. Such policies are considered a violation of Title IX.

“This week, I resigned from my position as the girls varsity tennis coach at Canby High School,” Brown captioned the post.

Brown added that the decision to abruptly end a coach's tenure was difficult, arguing that Title IX policies “put women at risk.”

”[I]It wasn't an easy decision. I love coaching and enjoy every moment of working with these girls. But I can no longer stand by and watch their dreams be shattered and their opportunities taken away. I can no longer sit idly by while all the work I put into Title 9 is ignored. I cannot support policies that endanger women's physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual health. ”
Shortly after the aforementioned Title IX proposal was made public, the Freedom Defense Institute for Policy Research, a coalition of attorneys, subject matter experts, parents, civil rights organizations, and former education officials, wrote a letter to U.S. Secretary of Education Miguel. I have written. Cardona. The letter argued that additional regulations expected by the Biden administration would “unfairly” penalize female athletes.
Brown ran for Newburgh School Board in 2018, according to Canby's longtime weekly newspaper, the Canby Herald.
Brown coached the Newburgh men's tennis team for 20 years, but felt challenged to become more involved in the community. The newspaper reported that Brown also coached basketball and football. He was a tennis player when he was a sophomore in high school and began teaching lessons while a student at Portland State University.

“I've always really liked Camby,” Brown told the Camby Herald about taking the varsity women's tennis coaching job in 2020. “My kids played against Camby in everything from football, basketball and tennis. The Camby game was fascinating. Coaching girls at varsity level was always on my bucket list. But I never had that opportunity. I coached girls in the summer. “But it was never like that as a team. I wasn't looking for this, it just kind of came out of nowhere.”
