An Oregon city doubled down on its DEI policies after city officials received complaints that people were using public restrooms and locker rooms based on their gender identity rather than gender.

Another woman, who identified herself as a “medical professional”, said she was “mortified” that a biological male was allowed to invade a woman’s space. “She’s afraid of being exposed to male genitalia that she doesn’t want,” she said. She said, “She is worried that she will be sexually attacked.”
But others in the area are concerned about how such complaints might make people who identify as transgender feel. “I really feel like this is an attempt to target transgender women’s bodies and identities,” Hall added.
Mary Grace Frederick, a man pretending to be a woman, was similarly shaken with emotion as he claimed people in his community were judging him unfairly. “People sitting in this room tonight called me a sexual deviant, a predator,” he said.
Other visible LGBTQ+ activists were scheduled to speak at the conference as well, condemning their compatriots who voiced their concerns. They also noted the availability of gender-neutral restrooms and dedicated changing spaces in public locker rooms.
Mayor Kaplan also weighed in, suggesting that complaints about men potentially undressing in front of young girls are a sign that more tolerance is needed in the community. “People have assumptions. If I look at you as a predator and I look at you through that lens because you’re different than me, I interpret all of your actions to be predatory.” he insisted.
In this agenda item, the city reiterated DEI’s policy that “racism and bigotry will never be supported or tolerated, but rather should be identified and condemned.” It also showed that transgender people can continue to use the bathroom of their choice.
“Public spaces are for everyone, and the City works diligently to ensure that public spaces are inclusive, accessible, and safe. Because of the many people who live and work in Newport, the City of Newport and Newport Parks and Recreation are diverse, vibrant, and prosperous because of the many people who live and work in Newport. We will not tolerate this.”
Kaplan only recently became mayor of Newport after Dean Sawyer resigned last July after making what he deemed “hateful” comments on social media. As Blaze News previously reported, Sawyer used a private Facebook page to criticize men participating in women’s sports and express support for former President Donald Trump’s immigration policies. He later apologized profusely for those comments.
