Oregon’s Evan Stewart Arrest and Coach’s Response
Dan Lanning, the head coach of the Oregon Ducks, stated that he is still in the process of gathering details regarding the recent arrest of wide receiver Evan Stewart. Lanning emphasized that he would take “appropriate action” once he has all the necessary information.
“There will be an appropriate action taken. Still gathering some details with what that situation looks like,” Lanning explained. He mentioned that the matter would be handled internally, saying, “I’m not gonna respond to any other questions about that. We’re gonna handle that with our guys.”
Stewart was arrested early Sunday on charges related to driving under the influence, shortly after the Ducks secured a win against Nebraska on Saturday night. According to police reports, he was booked into the Springfield Municipal Jail.
Lanning noted that the incident was unfortunate, as it overshadowed the team’s victory.
Interestingly, Stewart did not participate in the game against Nebraska due to an undisclosed injury. So far this season, he has made 27 receptions for a total of 352 yards and has scored four touchdowns, following a season lost to a right patellar tendon tear last year.
“There was an incident this weekend that didn’t match our standard here in our program,” Lanning remarked, indicating his disappointment in the situation.
Looking ahead, Oregon is set to visit Illinois for a Big Ten matchup. Meanwhile, the status of star quarterback Dante Moore remains uncertain as he has been recovering from a concussion and did not play in the last two games. Lanning mentioned that Moore did participate in practice before Oregon’s Week 6 game against UCLA, but quarterbacks Brock Thoman and Dylan Raiola ended up playing in the narrow 17-15 loss to the Bruins. Both quarterbacks also saw action during the game against Nebraska.
