PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Nearly a quarter of the 2023 1099-G tax forms mailed to Oregonians this week may have ended up in the wrong mailbox.
The state Department of Administrative Services announced Friday, Jan. 26, that a mailing error occurred when sending tax returns to people who received benefits from the unemployment insurance program in 2023. The error affected approximately 33,000 mailings out of more than 122,000.
As a result, some Oregonians may not have received their tax form 1099-G at all, and others may have received additional forms that don't belong to them.
Form 1099-G is issued to people to notify them that they may need to report the funds they receive on their federal income tax returns. The form shows the person's total unemployment compensation payments for the year.
The state Department of Administrative Services, known as DAS, was informed of the error by the postal contractor on Wednesday, January 24th.
