Oscar Isaac urges Disney to resist bending to 'fascism'

Oscar Isaac Open to Future Work with Disney, If Conditions Are Right

Oscar Isaac, known for his role in Disney’s “Star Wars” sequel trilogy, mentioned on Sunday that he’d entertain the idea of collaborating with Disney again, provided the company steers clear of “fascism.”

During a recent interview with GQ, Isaac discussed the possibility of revisiting his character, Poe Dameron. Alex Papademas, the magazine’s senior culture editor, posed the question of whether he would consider returning.

“I’m open to it, but I’m a bit hesitant about working with Disney right now. If they could gain a clearer understanding and resist yielding to, um, you know, fascism, that would be a positive step,” Isaac remarked. He joins a number of other celebrities who’ve criticized Disney or distanced themselves from the company in recent times.

After Papademas expressed his interest in Isaac’s response, the actor added, “I’d be happy to chat about galaxies far, far away, among other topics, if that chance were to arise.”

Interestingly, Isaac’s stance on Star Wars seems to have mellowed since June 2020 when he indicated that he might return only if he needed “another home or something.”

In the same conversation, Papademas noted that this interview happened just two days after ABC and Disney put a hold on production for “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” due to controversy surrounding comments made by co-founder Charlie Kirk of TPUSA. This incident caused a stir, resulting in Kimmel’s show being temporarily taken off the air and igniting backlash among late-night entertainers and prominent Hollywood figures.

It seems Kimmel’s program was back on the air just a few days later, although Disney has not issued any comments regarding the matter.
