Oscar Piastri and McLaren F1 agree to ‘multi-year’ contract extension

Near the end of the 2023 Formula One season, McLaren CEO Zak Brown told me that the team has the best driver pairings on the grid.

The duo will be together in the near future.

On Tuesday, McLaren announced a new “multi-year” contract extension for Oscar Piastri, whose current contract will expire at the end of the 2026 Formula 1 season. Australian drivers who signed extensions during their rookie campaign can open the season at home with a new contract.

“It's a great feeling to know that I'm part of McLaren's long-term vision. The team had a belief in me when they signed it in 2022. And the journey they've taken over the past two seasons to bring McLaren back to the top of the sport has been incredible.” I said The piastry of the presentation.

“There are so many talented and special people working at MTC, who helped me become a Formula 1 race winner very early in my career. So I am extremely proud to continue to represent this legendary team for years to come,” the driver added. “I'm excited to compete for the big award as a McLaren driver. After some great achievements last year, I've even starved to stay at a sharp end.”

Piastri's teammate Lando Norris has been signed throughout the 2027 Formula One season.

“It's great to see Oscar's expansion with McLaren. He's not only an incredibly talented driver, but his work ethic and cultural fit within the team made it easier to extend his time with Papaya,” Brown said.

“We have the best driver lineup on the grid. Over the past two seasons we've seen how much of the assets are for the Oscar team. He was absolutely basic in addition to our legacy at the 2024 Constructors Championship last season, so we look forward to what we can do in the future as we continue to fight together for the World Championship.”

Team Principal Andrea Stella praised Piastri's work ethic and development as a driver.

“To further expand our partnership with Oscar is a symbol of our belief and trust in him as a driver, reflecting our shared ambition to continue our fight for the championship together,” Stella said.

“It has been a joy to work with Oscar throughout the last two seasons and continues to prove how impressive he is, from a driver's talent, determination, work ethic, and in terms of his contribution to the team and culture as a person.

“Alongside Rand, we need what we need in the long run to continue moving forward. We look forward to continuing to see Oscar grow and grow as a driver and know that many of the successes are ahead for him.”

Piastri, along with the rest of Norris and McLaren, will defend the constructor's title, which he won a year ago at the Australian Grand Prix this weekend.
