New Restrictions on Foreign Ownership of U.S. Farmland
Good news for those dreaming of farming! Agriculture Secretary Brook Rollins has unveiled a plan aimed at curbing foreign investments in U.S. farmland, highlighting concerns about national security and agricultural integrity.
Rollins stated, “With this announcement today, we are reclaiming our purpose and American farmland. Farming is about supporting our families and safeguarding our nation. We face foreign threats that could undermine our agricultural systems.” She emphasized the need for vigilance in modern agriculture.
As part of the USDA’s National Farm Security Action Plan, seven core initiatives were introduced. The primary objectives include safeguarding crucial farmlands and enacting swift legislation to prevent foreign entities, particularly those from China, from purchasing U.S. farmland.
Commenting on this issue, Blazetv host Sarah Gonzalez expressed her amazement over the fact that foreign buyers were ever permitted to acquire American land, especially farmland. “Whether it’s farmland, houses, or other developments, it’s surprising that it was allowed. And it’s not just in Texas—across the nation, around 227,000 acres owned by Chinese investors is staggering,” she added.
There are increasing concerns too, following reports of Chinese nationals attempting to smuggle harmful pathogens within crops. Gonzalez pointed out this alarming reality, saying, “They possess 227,000 acres of farmland and seem intent on introducing harmful bacteria, which is very troubling.” She clearly finds the situation unnerving.
