Then it became four. The NFL has conference championship weekend, and two of his great games to decide a spot in the Super Bowl.
The Chiefs continue to push Patrick Mahomes more and more, asking him to do more with less and continue to sustain the magic. 2023 is far from his best year, but what Mahomes was able to accomplish with his supporting cast is still amazing. What will make the difference in 2023? Defense. Kansas City has formed one of the best units in the NFL out of nowhere, but it's strange that the Chiefs have become such a defense-first team.
They will finally face the Ravens, who have overcome the odds and shown promise. Lamar Jackson is playing MVP-worthy football, but Baltimore's defense remains aggressive and dangerous. It will be interesting to see which team can shut down the opposing QB heading to Las Vegas.
The NFC, on the other hand, sees two legendary franchises face off under different circumstances. The 49ers have established themselves as Super Bowl contenders from the beginning, and have gotten this far thanks to a versatile offense and excellent defense. Meanwhile, the Lions have turned their promise into action and now look like legitimate Super Bowl contenders. There may not be anything that can be identified as Detroit's signature strength, but they haven't done anything wrong.
Here's who we pick to win the conference championship game.
