Republican presidential candidate Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-Fla.) said Sunday on CNN's “State of the Union” that voters are “very motivated.”
So he expects to do well in Monday's Iowa caucuses, he said.
Anchor Jake Tapper said, “So, in the final Des Moines Register poll, which is considered the gold standard, you're in third place behind Nikki Haley and ahead of Donald Trump. You can see that you're over 30 points behind. Your campaign has gotten a lot of attention and millions of dollars have been poured into Iowa. You've visited 99 counties and spent most of your time as a candidate. Last month, you said you were going to win Iowa. What happens if you come in third? Is that the end of your campaign?”
“Monday is going to go well,” DeSantis said. “Our voters are very motivated. I think it's going to be very difficult to vote in the Iowa caucuses. Des Moines Register poll. 2016 poll is accurate. It wasn't accurate, especially minus 20 degrees polls, so they're highly motivated people. We went door to door and promised people to come to the caucuses. We've spent a lot of time in the state of Iowa because we've had a lot of people involved, and we have a huge number of people who will be participating in the caucuses, and we expect those people to participate. . So there's a lot of excitement on the ground. We're in this situation for the long haul. We understand that we need to get a majority of delegates. Our people will come out. And whoever says they can accurately model who will emerge in the broader electorate, that's an unknown quantity. We're going to have a good night.”
