An actor from the hit Netflix series “Outer Banks” allegedly had a meltdown at a Las Vegas hospital earlier this week and assaulted multiple staff members “out of nowhere.” He later claimed that his actions were due to a severe panic attack.
On Tuesday night, 27-year-old Austin North entered University Medical Center, just west of the Las Vegas Strip, complaining of an unexplained medical condition. While in the emergency room, North appears to have unexpectedly begun attacking several hospital staff.
according to report, North allegedly punched one nurse in the head and stabbed another in the face. He also apparently shoved the phlebotomist into the table. The phlebotomist then grabbed a nearby tray and struck North in the head in self-defense. There are also reports that North Korea similarly attacked a fourth woman, but it is unclear whether the woman was a hospital worker.
Security officials managed to restrain North and handcuff him to a stretcher, and police arrived shortly afterward to arrest him. Multiple officers claimed that when the officer who read North his Miranda rights asked him if he understood he was being arrested for assault, he responded “yes.”
Two days after the incident, North shared his thoughts on social media. In a lengthy post on his Instagram Live, North claimed to have experienced an “anxiety attack” so severe that he thought he was “having a heart attack.” North has struggled with anxiety for years, but he has never experienced symptoms like this, he said.
He claimed to have “very little recollection” of that night. He also expressed his hope that his own story would “shed light on this debilitating disease and give hope to those who are suffering as well.” He insisted he had “the utmost respect for medical workers and hospital staff,” but did not apologize to the alleged victims.
Mr. North was charged and charged with a felony. He has since detained without custody. It is unclear when he is scheduled to next appear in court or whether he has hired a lawyer.
North is best known for playing Topper Thornton on Outer Banks. Season 4 of the series is currently in production in North Carolina.
