Adams’ Final Weeks as NYC Mayor: Jet-Setting and Future Speculations

As Eric Adams prepares to leave his position as New York City’s mayor, he’s been traveling quite a bit—though it’s uncertain if he’ll return. Recently, he acknowledged that he’s on the lookout for a new role that comes with appealing benefits.

Adams is set to depart for Uzbekistan after completing a five-day visit to Israel, stirring up questions about what his next job might be. Sources indicate he might lean toward an opportunity with an Israeli-backed international construction firm, yet there are still whispers about a potential ambassadorship, possibly even to the Republic of Congo.

On Election Day, he mentioned, “Countries are calling me and asking me to come to New York City and do the same thing.” He has about six weeks left in his term but has noticeably been away from the city since he ended his re-election campaign on September 28.

He quickly set off for Albania shortly after, a place where his son, Jordan Coleman, gained some notoriety on a talent show. Following that, Adams attended a business roundtable in Washington, D.C., meeting with Uzbekistan’s President on November 6.

This week, he will head to Israel again—his second trip since taking office in 2022. The visit is intended to signal commitment against rising anti-Semitism and to assure Jewish residents of their safety in New York.

During this journey, Adams met with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and went on to visit sites impacted by violence, including a kibbutz once attacked by Hamas.

His frequent travels to far-off places have often been both a topic of discussion and a source of humor. Even during his time as Brooklyn’s borough president, his opulent trips—particularly those taken on Turkish Airlines—resulted in federal investigations, though any charges have since been dismissed.

Throughout his term, Adams’ travels included trips to Mexico and various South American nations amid the migrant crisis, as well as visits to Greece and Qatar. However, some trips were canceled due to a corruption scandal that overshadowed his mayoral accomplishments, ultimately jeopardizing his chances for re-election.

Despite setbacks, Adams continued to campaign for months, facing considerable pressure—even from the White House—to step aside for Andrew Cuomo in the hopes of thwarting socialist candidate Mr. Mamdani’s potential victory.

Adams also met with President Trump’s envoy for the Middle East during a private visit to Florida. Interestingly, when Trump was in New York, efforts to arrange a face-to-face meeting stalled.

Still, sources say that the door hasn’t entirely closed on resuming discussions about the ambassadorship to Congo. Meanwhile, Adams’ administration has been tight-lipped regarding the costs associated with his travels, leaving many to wonder about the expenses involved.

While Adams’ trip to Uzbekistan coincided with legal troubles faced by a former aide, who managed to avoid prison time, the judge overseeing that case indirectly referenced Adams as a significant figure in the matter.

City Hall confirmed that Adams’ current international trip does not involve any layovers in Istanbul.
