Federal regulators have announced a recall affecting approximately 2.3 million bottles of sour candy due to a choking hazard that could potentially cause serious injury or even death.
This recall pertains to Ricky Joy Sour Crush Rolling Liquid Candy Bottles, as the rolling ball on these bottles may detach, creating a choking risk, as highlighted by the Consumer Product Safety Commission on Thursday.
The commission stated, “The rolling ball on the recalled candy bottles can detach, posing a risk of serious injury or death from choking hazard.”
These candy bottles were sold both individually and in packs of three or twelve, featuring flavors like blue raspberry, strawberry, green apple, and watermelon.
The affected products were available at retailers such as H-E-B and Forman Mill, alongside various candy stores across the country. They were also sold online via platforms like Walmart, CandyFunHouse.com, and RickyJoy.com from January 2023 until May 2026.
Priced at around $3 each, the bottles contain 1.85 fluid ounces of sour liquid candy that can be dispensed through a rollerball top.
Each bottle is marked with the Ricky Joy logo along with phrases like “EXTREME SOUR” and “SOUR CRUSH,” and features a playful image of a green monster with its tongue out.
So far, there haven’t been any reported injuries related to this recall.
Consumers are strongly advised to stop using these candy bottles right away, keep them out of reach of children, and contact The Ricky Joy Company to arrange a refund.
