House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-Ky.) is investigating the role of Vice President Kamala Harris, described as the nation’s “border czar,” in creating “the worst border crisis in American history” under President Joe Biden.
This week, Comer letter They demanded that Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Acting Commissioner Troy Miller turn over all documents and communications between the agency and Harris’ office regarding the U.S.-Mexico border and illegal immigration.
“Since the Biden-Harris administration took office, more than 8 million illegal immigrants have entered the country at the southwest border and more than 1.6 million have escaped,” Comer wrote.
“The committee seeks to understand whether Vice President Harris has done ‘anything’ to address the worst border crisis in American history,” Comer continued.

Instead of focusing on the southwest border, where millions of illegal immigrants have been allowed into the country by the Biden-Harris administration, Vice President Harris focused on what she described as the “root causes of illegal immigration.” From Central America. Central to VP Harris’ Root Causes Initiative is an effort to “provide $4 billion to the region over four years.” VP Harris has visited Central America, Mexico and Guatemala in 2021 and Honduras in 2022, more times than she has visited the U.S. southern border… VP Harris’ root cause approach to solving the border crisis has been a total failure as encounters at the Southwest border remain high. “It is unclear what actions VP Harris has taken to resolve the border crisis,” Comer wrote, noting that one Border Patrol agent told the committee that Harris has “literally done nothing” and that “she came to the border once, and we removed all the aliens that were there to make ourselves look better.”
Harris has long been a critic of federal immigration enforcement, and in 2018, Comer said, she suggested that the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency, which is tasked with arresting and deporting illegal immigrants from the US, should be dismantled and rebuilt “from the ground up.”
Similarly, Harris has long opposed building a wall along the southern border, despite the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) determining that a border wall is the most effective way to reduce illegal immigration.
During her 2020 presidential run, Harris said she supported decriminalizing illegal border crossings and backing amnesty for the 11 to 22 million illegal immigrants living in the United States.
Comer has asked that any correspondence or documents related to Harris’ role on the border and illegal immigration be turned over to the committee by August 20.
The House of Representatives has already passed a resolution condemning Harris for her role as a so-called “border agent,” while Rep. Andy Ogles (R-Tenn.) has introduced articles of impeachment alleging that Harris has not complied with federal immigration law.
