Rep. Sean Kasten (D-Ill.) faced criticism from constituents at a town hall meeting at City Hall as they expressed their concerns over the treatment of Palestinians in the Israeli-Hamas War.
Video footage retrieved from CNN shows attendees aggressively confronting Kasten, with one person getting physical and approaching him on stage.
“You’re saying that when my people are being slaughtered, I’m not going to stand on my own, and I want you to stop funding them,” a man cried as he approached Kasten.
“If you want to run for the office, run for the office,” Kasten responded.
“That’s the stupidest thing I’ve ever heard. You are the most soulless person I’ve ever seen,” another attendee shouted.
The attendees then rushed the stage and urged Kasten to leave, following which police arrived and ended the forum.
Kasten becomes the latest House Democrat to face pressure from his own party during the current parliamentary break, following Rep. Glenn Evie’s town hall meeting on Tuesday, which was met with criticism over the party’s response to the Trump administration.
City Hall has been in the spotlight recently, with House Republicans also facing pressure from attendees on issues including government efficiency actions, potential cuts to Medicaid and Social Security.
