Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R) announced that the dog's former owner who tied him to a telephone pole before Hurricane Milton will be charged with “animal cruelty.”
At a press conference Tuesday, DeSantis said: spoke A Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) trooper rescued a dog that was tied to a pole on Interstate 75. DeSantis said that Florida Attorney Susan Lopez I'm looking for “Animal cruelty charges” against former owner.
The dog's former owner, Giovanny Aldama Garcia, is charged with “aggravated animal cruelty, a third-degree felony” after tying his dog, Jumbo, to a pole and “heading to Georgia.” According to To Fox59. If Garcia is convicted, he could be sentenced to “up to five years in prison.”
According to the newspaper, Garcia admitted to police that he had abandoned the dog because he “couldn't find anyone to take it back.”
“We said at the time that we can't just tie up dogs and let them go out in preparation for a storm,” DeSantis said. “This is totally unacceptable and we will hold him accountable. Now, we can announce that authorities have identified the dog's former owner and that State Attorney Susie Lopez is now pursuing animal cruelty charges against the dog. We are proud of you. We said you would be responsible, and you will be responsible too.”
DeSantis added that before Hurricane Milton made landfall, the dog's former owner decided that “somehow it would be a good thing to take his dog and chain him to a post on the interstate.”
“The Florida Highway Patrol was here today and they saw that dog in distress,” DeSantis added. “The dog was very shaken up from the experience.” Ta.
DeSantis said the dog was rescued by FHP personnel, adding that the dog is “currently in Tallahassee” and will be renamed “Trooper.”
on video Posted Tampa FHP responded to X on Oct. 9 when officers approached a white dog with black spots on its ears tied to a pole with its paws completely submerged in water.
When the police officer approaches, the dog tries to back away.
“It's okay, buddy,” the officer says. “It's okay. It's okay. It's okay. It's okay.”
As the officer approached the dog and tried to reassure him, he could hear the dog growling and barking. “It's okay. I don't blame you. I don't blame you, it's okay, buddy. It's okay.”
“FHP Police this morning rescued a dog that was left tied to a pole on Interstate 75 near Bruce B. Downs Boulevard,” FHP Tampa said in a post. “Please don't do this to your pet.”
