Oz Cautions Minnesota Governor Walz to Address Medicaid Fraud or Risk Losing Funding

Warning for Minnesota Governor Over Medicaid Fraud Allegations

Minnesota’s governor, Tim Walz, faces a serious warning from Trump’s administration regarding potential cuts to Medicaid funding if allegations of fraud are not addressed.

Dr. Mehmet Oz, Administrator of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), expressed concerns on social media, stating that Walz and state officials must be investigated because they seem “drowsy at the wheel,” according to reports.

Oz criticized the situation, saying, “Based on what we currently know, this is a clear dereliction of duty.” He noted the serious implications of recent developments:

Minnesota Medicaid has introduced various programs over the years, such as Housing Stability Services for homeless individuals with disabilities and Early Intensive Developmental and Behavioral Intervention for families with autistic children. However, some individuals within Minnesota’s Somali community exploited the system, significantly inflating costs. The housing program intended to cost $2.6 million annually ended up paying over $100 million last year. Additionally, the budget for autism programs skyrocketed from $3 million in 2018 to nearly $400 million in 2023.

Oz mentioned concerns that some of this misappropriated taxpayer money may have supported the Somali terrorist group al-Shebab. In a report by Breitbart News, it was noted that “$1 billion in stolen Medicaid and welfare benefits not only lined the pockets of corrupt Somali immigrants, but also funded terrorism in Africa.”

To address these issues and restore program integrity, Oz outlined several required actions:

1. Provide weekly updates to CMS on fraud prevention measures.

2. Suspend registrations for all high-risk providers for six months.

3. Confirm the legitimacy of all current providers or remove them from the program.

4. Develop a corrective action plan to CMS to avoid future issues.

“If we find the state’s efforts lacking, we will stop funding these programs. The message to Mr. Walz is straightforward: Resolve this within 60 days, or be prepared for consequences,” Oz added.

Reports from Breitbart News also highlighted that the Minnesota Department of Health and Human Services claimed they had alerted Walz about fraud allegations early on, but faced retaliation against the whistleblower.

“Tim Walz is entirely accountable for the extensive fraud in Minnesota. We notified him early to help address the fraud, but instead faced intimidation and attempts to discredit our reports,” the organization stated.

Dr. Oz was appointed to lead CMS after Trump won his second presidential term, defeating former VP Kamala Harris and Walz. Trump remarked at the time, “America is dealing with a health crisis, and Dr. Oz is uniquely qualified to help improve health in the nation.”
