Packers defeat Lions in Thanksgiving game in Detroit

Packers Triumph Over Lions in Thanksgiving Showdown

The Green Bay Packers faced off against the Detroit Lions in what has become a celebrated rivalry for cheeseheads in 2025. The Packers secured a 31-24 win on the road during Thanksgiving afternoon, marking an eventful game.

From the outset, Green Bay was on the offensive, with two touchdowns achieved on fourth downs in the first half. However, just before the halftime buzzer, Jameson Williams caught a 22-yard touchdown pass, narrowing the gap to just three points as the Lions prepared for the second half.

The momentum didn’t hold for Detroit, though. Jahmil Gibbs was stopped in his tracks during a crucial fourth-and-three play, which handed the Packers the ball at midfield. Almost immediately, Jordan Love found Christian Watson for an impressive 51-yard touchdown, stretching the Packers’ lead to 24-14.

Lions quarterback Jared Goff countered with a touchdown pass to Isaac Tesla, bringing the score back to a three-point difference. But the Packers responded with another touchdown from Dontaevion Wicks, maintaining their slight edge.

As the game progressed into the fourth quarter, the Lions were determined to score again. They pushed down the field and were in a position to secure a field goal. Yet, Jameson Williams, who had stepped up due to Amon-Ra St. Brown’s injury, dropped a crucial pass that could have offered a first down, ultimately turning the ball back over to the Packers.

The Packers managed to punt successfully but were faced with renewed pressure from Detroit. After a defensive penalty during a third-and-15 situation, they settled for a field goal. In a surprising move, rather than opting for a punt to close out the game, the Packers decided to go for it on fourth down. Wicks made an outstanding catch, almost sealing their victory with what could have been a game-ending play. Love then moved the clock forward, securing his eighth win of the season.

This victory marks the first time since 2020 that the Packers have swept their two games against the Lions in a single season—a significant boost for their playoff hopes.

In total, Love threw four touchdown passes, connecting twice with Wicks, and also finding Christian Watson and Romeo Dou for scores. The Packers now stand at 8-3-1, while the Lions drop to 7-5. Looking ahead, Green Bay will host the Chicago Bears next week, while Detroit prepares to face the Dallas Cowboys at home.
