Packers Secure Another Win, Defeating Washington 27-18
The Green Bay Packers continued their strong start to the season with a 27-18 victory over the Washington Commanders, improving to 2-0. This win followed their season-opening triumph against the Detroit Lions.
The atmosphere at Lambeau Field for the first night game of the season was electric, with a full house that really appreciated the performance from Matt LaFleur’s squad.
On the other hand, Washington’s offense, which looked promising in their opener against the New York Giants, struggled significantly against the Packers’ defense, which had already impressed in the first week.
Second-year quarterback Jaden Daniels faced a tough challenge, with the Packers’ secondary effectively shutting down his options. He was forced to throw under pressure, making it difficult to find any rhythm.
Washington had to punt on their first three possessions, while Jordan Love and the Packers’ offense efficiently moved the ball down the field. A remarkable 96-yard drive allowed Romeo Doubs to score the first touchdown.
In the first half, the Packers reached the end zone again, with Malik Heath making a sensational catch—his footwork was a highlight after a video review. Josh Jacobs also extended his touchdown streak to ten games with a two-yard rush, making a significant impact.
Washington’s kicker, Matt Gay, managed a 51-yard field goal in the second quarter but was unsuccessful from 58 yards before halftime. After the break, another attempt at a field goal fell short, placing more pressure on the team.
Even with offensive struggles, Washington’s defense showed persistence in the fourth quarter, keeping the game within reach. With around 15 minutes left, Daniels orchestrated a 50-yard touchdown drive, targeting tight end Zack Ertz, who caught a 20-yard pass to make the score 17-10.
However, pressure mounted on Green Bay, and they responded well. They covered 65 yards, leading to a quick touchdown from their tight end, which was crucial in maintaining their lead.
Trying to not fall too far behind, Washington answered back with another touchdown by Deebo Samuel. Still, despite a late attempt at a two-point conversion that ended in failure, time was not on their side.
In terms of stats, Love completed 31 passes on 19 attempts for 292 yards, while Daniels finished 24 of 41 for 200 yards and two touchdowns. Yet, he struggled in the rushing department, totaling only 17 yards on seven attempts. The Packers also outperformed Washington in rushing yards, 137 to 51.
