Jason Adam’s First All-Star Selection
MLB reliever Jason Adam has earned his first All-Star selection this season while playing from the San Diego Padres’ bullpen. It’s been quite the journey for him.
The surprising news came as Adam was at church with his wife when he received a call from Padres manager Mike Schilt regarding his All-Star nomination. But immediately, his wife suspected he might be traded instead.
“I felt my phone vibrate, and I showed it to my wife. She exclaimed, ‘Oh, well, we’re not going to trade,’” Adam recounted. After the call, he went back to worship and admitted he shed a few tears, sharing the moment with his wife, Kelsey.
“It created a little scene in the church,” he said. “She was crying and absolutely thrilled.” It sounds like a memorable moment for both of them.
Adam quickly reached out to his parents to share the exciting news, acknowledging their pivotal role in supporting him throughout his career.
Having been traded multiple times, the thought of a trade was a real concern for Adam. This season marks his fifth team in eight years within the league. He began with the Kansas City Royals, then moved on to the Toronto Blue Jays, the Chicago Cubs, the Tampa Bay Rays, and now the Padres. San Diego picked him up in 2024, and he has started to shine since joining the team.
So far this season, Adam boasts an impressive 1.58 ERA across 45 games, along with 52 strikeouts. Last season, he achieved a career-high with 81 strikeouts while playing for both the Rays and Padres, appearing in 74 games.
As a side note, San Diego’s overall record stands at 49-43 for the season. Alongside Adam, other players like Fernando Tatis Jr., Manny Machado, and Robert Suarez will also represent the Padres in the All-Star Game.
