New Delhi:
With their backs on the wall and no other options available, the Pakistan Security Committee met today and after hours of discussion, they decided to reflect India’s actions following the terrorist attacks in Jammu and Kashmir. However, Islamabad also threatened to suspend all contracts, including the Shimla Agreement, which examines the line of control in Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh.
Islamabad has decided in the That move to suspend permits issued to Indians under the SAARC visa waiver scheme, as was done the previous day. It also decided to cut the Indian diplomatic staff to 30 for the High Commissioner. This was announced by India yesterday.
Responding to the suspension of the Indus Treaty
However, Pakistan found itself at the end of losing India’s decision to suspend India’s waters treaty, saying, “an attempt to stop or divert the flow of water belonging to Pakistan in accordance with the Indus Waters treaty will see the seizing of the rights of the lower riverbanks as an act of war, and will respond beyond the full spectrum of national strength.”
Pakistan will face serious circumstances and tens of millions of people will be affected if it collides with Indus and two other rivers, the Jeram and Chenab rivers. Pakistan is already facing a sharp water shortage, and such punishment moves could cripple Pakistan’s province.
Threats to Simla Contracts
However, Pakistan has stirred the Hornet’s nest by arguing that “Pakistan will exercise its right to exercise its right to make all bilateral agreements with India, including but not limited to the Shimla Agreement in avantance, until it refuses to manifest itself from manifestation of fome-humiliating terrorism within Pakistan.”
The SIMLA Agreement signed after the war in 1971, the SIMLA Agreement signed so that the ceasefire line is known as the control line or LOC, is where the troops of both countries are stationed. If Pakistan suspends the SIMLA agreement, it raises doubts about the effectiveness of the control.
Borders, visas, trade
Several other measures Pakistan has taken in response to India’s actions against Pahargam’s terrorist attacks are as follows:
- Pakistan shall immediately have effect and close the Waga Border Post. Any cross-border passage from India via this route shall be suspended without exception. Those who cross over a valid approval will be able to immediately return that route by April 30, 2025.
- Pakistan will suspend all visas under the SAARC Visa Waiver Scheme (SVES) issued to Indian citizens, except for Sikh religious pilgrims, and will determine that they have been cancelled immediately. Indian citizens currently in Pakistan will be instructed to leave within 48 hours under the Subai, with fewer Sikh pilgrims.
- Pakistan’s airspace will be closed instantly and effectively to all Indian airlines.
- All trade with India, including through Pakistan with third countries, has been suspended immediately.
The Pakistani statement also said, “The military is fully capable and ready to defend its sovereignty and territorial integrity,” adding that “no one will ever violate its sovereignty, security, dignity and their inviolable rights.”
