Palantir Technologies Overview
Palantir Technologies Inc. (PLTR), with a market cap of $368.7 billion, specializes in creating advanced software platforms used by governments and commercial clients globally. Their major products—Gotham, Foundry, Apollo, and various AI platforms—facilitate data integration, analytics, and operational decision-making, particularly in the industrial and national security sectors.
Based in Denver, Colorado, Palantir’s stock has notably outperformed the overall market over the last year. In fact, PLTR shares have skyrocketed 501.5%, while the S&P 500 index increased by only 17.4% during the same period. Year-to-date, Palantir’s shares are up 109.7%, significantly outpacing the S&P 500’s growth of 8.5%.
When compared to the Technology Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLK), which reported a return of 26.1% over the last 52 weeks, Palantir’s stock still shows an impressive increase, with a 13.9% rise year-to-date.
However, despite exceeding first-quarter revenue expectations on May 5 with earnings surpassing $883.9 million, Palantir’s stock experienced a 12.1% drop the next day. This decline raised concerns about the sustainability of its international growth. While U.S. sales surged by 55% and the company raised its full-year forecast, signs of reduced demand outside the U.S. caught investors off-guard.
Looking ahead, analysts predict Palantir’s earnings per share (EPS) will jump by 362.5% this fiscal year, projected to end in December 2025, reaching $0.37. However, Palantir’s revenue history is mixed, having beaten consensus estimates in just one of the last four quarters.
Among 21 analysts monitoring the stock, the consensus rating remains “pending,” reflecting a mixture of evaluations: four “strong buys,” 13 “holds,” one “medium sell,” and three “strong sells.”
On July 10, Wedbush adjusted its price target for Palantir Technologies to $160, showcasing strong confidence in the company’s AI strategy and maintaining an “outperform” rating.
Currently, the stock is trading above the average price target of $110.72. A peak price target of $170 suggests a possible 7.6% increase from the current price level.
