The airport situated less than eight miles from Mar-a-Lago has officially been renamed President Donald J. Trump International Airport.

“Starting today, Palm Beach International Airport is officially renamed Donald J. Trump Presidential International Airport,” announced the airport through its X account on Thursday.

This shift is part of a broader transformation effort backed by legislation signed by Florida’s Governor Ron DeSantis in March.

Currently, the airport is in a “transition mode,” working to update physical signs, digital platforms, and other locations to mirror the new name.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) also noted that the airport’s three-letter code changed from PBI to DJT as of Thursday.

The FAA tweeted: “Effective today: Palm Beach International Airport’s three-letter location identifier has changed from PBI to DJT, as Palm Beach International Airport is officially renamed Donald J. Trump International Airport.” They confirmed the systems would reflect this change.

According to DJT’s FAQ page about the renaming, both the FAA Location Identifier and the International Civil Aviation Organization code have been updated, while the International Air Transport Association code is set to change on August 18.

These IATA codes are primarily used for ticketing and baggage handling, while the FAA identifiers serve pilots and air traffic control.

Footage shared from the White House reveals road signs directing traffic toward the newly named airport.

The state of Florida allocated $2.75 million for the name change, while estimates from the Palm Beach County Airport Authority put costs at around $5.5 million. The remaining funds will come from the airport’s operational budget and capital investments.

“This includes long-term upgrades to signage, wayfinding, branding, technology systems, and other operational elements,” the airport stated, ensuring that no local taxes were utilized in this initiative.

Eric Trump, President Trump’s son, expressed excitement over the name change, extending thanks to Florida officials.

“No one has done more for Florida and our country, and no one deserves this honor more than my father,” Eric shared on social media. “As someone who flies out of this airport almost daily, I’m proud to have ‘DJT’ on my boarding pass.” He added, “Congratulations, Dad. I’m pleased to have played a significant role in this.”

At 5:01 a.m., Eric tweeted that Trump Force One was the first flight to land at the newly renamed airport, declaring, “No one has done more for Florida and our country.”
