Proposed Name Change for Palm Beach International Airport
A bill was put forth this past weekend aiming to rename Florida’s Palm Beach International Airport (PBI) to Donald J. Trump International Airport. This development was confirmed by a representative from state Rep. Meg Weinberger’s office.
“President Trump is arguably the most impactful president of our time and he’s also a resident of Palm Beach County. So, it seems appropriate to honor him, much like we have done for several presidents in the past, by renaming our airport to Donald J. Trump International,” Weinberger stated.
Palm Beach International has seen regular visits from Air Force One, thanks to its close proximity to Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate.
In the U.S., more than a dozen airports are named in honor of presidents, including well-known facilities like John F. Kennedy Airport in New York and Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport in Arlington, Virginia.
Interestingly, back in January, Rep. Addison McDowell from North Carolina, along with some House Republicans, introduced another bill to rename Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport in Trump’s honor. However, this new bill regarding PBI hasn’t progressed past referral yet.
Between May 2023 and May 2024, Palm Beach Airport had a record-breaking year, accommodating over 8 million passengers, which is quite impressive. The airport’s official website mentions that it has been awarded the title of “best in the nation” for overall TSA wait times by U.S. Customs and Border Protection.
Weinberger has also co-sponsored a bill that seeks to rename a four-mile stretch of Southern Boulevard connecting PBI to Mar-a-Lago. Although this proposal recently received a signature from Gov. Ron DeSantis, it still awaits approval from local authorities.
Currently, Fox News Digital is seeking comments from the White House regarding this issue.
