Pam Bondi Challenges DC’s Sanctuary City Policies

Attorney General Targets Sanctuary City Policies in D.C.

Attorney General Pam Bondy announced on Thursday her intention to abolish Washington, D.C.’s Sanctuary City status, directing an immediate end to policies that protect undocumented immigrants from federal immigration enforcement.

She instructed D.C. officials to halt the Sanctuary City policy and tasked Terrence C. Cole, the head of drug enforcement, to collaborate with the metropolitan police to tackle the growing issue of violent crime and enhance public safety. During her appearance on Fox News, Bondy asserted that the capital should no longer serve as a refuge for individuals violating laws. She emphasized her commitment to restoring order to a city she believes has been neglected by progressive policies.

“D.C. will not actively protect criminal aliens,” she stated firmly. “It will not happen. Under Donald Trump’s leadership, D.C. will be safe and orderly once more.”

Later that evening, Bondy also addressed a recent metropolitan police order which had restricted officers from detaining individuals solely based on immigration warrants and limited the sharing of certain information with federal immigration authorities.

She commended law enforcement officials for facing challenges from D.C.’s judicial system, which she described as overwhelmed by lenient judges, broad bail policies, and unidentified juvenile offenders. Bondy expressed a desire to restore law and order in cooperation with federal agents.

“You have a liberal judge, no cash bail, and crime escalating in the city. We aim to assist them. Over the last few nights, we partnered with federal agencies,” Bondy remarked.

She highlighted the results of a recent federal crackdown in D.C., noting, “We made 156 arrests and seized 27 firearms as well as child pornographic material.”

President Trump had placed Washington’s police under federal scrutiny following an incident where Edward Coristine, a government employee, was injured while attempting to prevent a violent car theft. While Democrats have asserted that violent crime rates in D.C. have decreased significantly, data from the Metropolitan Police Department suggests that aggravated assault and felony assault are not included in this assessment, despite their classification as violent crimes.

On June 30, a tragic shooting occurred that involved an intern for Rep. Ron Estes in the vicinity of the White House, adding to the concerns regarding safety in the area.
