Papua New Guinea Prime Minister James Marape is hitting back at President Joe Biden.
Last week, Biden suggested this to his uncle. World War II Veteran Ambrose J. Finneganwas eaten by cannibals in New Guinea after crashing into the Pacific Ocean in May 1944. While it is true that Finnegan’s body was never recovered, there is no evidence that cannibals ate him.
In a statement, Marape accused Biden of “seeming to suggest that my uncle was eaten by cannibals.”
Marape: “President Biden’s statement may have been a gaffe, but our country does not deserve to be labeled as such.” Said. “World War II was not the work of our people, but they were needlessly drawn into a conflict that was not their fault.”
Additionally, Marape said the United States needs to recover the remains of dead Americans from Papua New Guinea and help remove World War II debris from the island.
“Relics of World War II are scattered across Papua New Guinea, including the plane that carried President Biden’s uncle,” Marape said. “Perhaps, given President Biden’s comments and the strong reaction from Papua New Guinea and other parts of the world, the United States will continue to carry out World War II war crimes in Papua New Guinea, including the remains of fallen servicemen like Ambrose. I think it’s time to find as many remains as possible, Finnegan.
“The battlefields of Papua New Guinea and the Solomon Islands are numerous and littered with World War II debris, including human remains, plane wreckage, ship wreckage, tunnels and bombs,” he added. “Our people live in daily fear of being killed by an exploding bomb during World War II.”
Last week, the White House received multiple questions about Biden’s statements, but officials declined to explain their inaccuracies.
For example, White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre. didn’t say why Biden brought up cannibalism and refused to say why Biden falsely claimed his uncle’s plane was “shot down” when in fact both engines failed and his uncle’s plane crashed. . According to the Department of Defense.
The White House ignored those questions, saying Biden was proud of his uncle’s accomplishments and using the occasion to criticize Donald Trump.
