Parachute Incident Delays Virginia Tech Spring Game
During a spring football game at Virginia Tech, a stuntman found himself in a precarious situation when a parachute crashed into the stadium’s scoreboard. This unexpected event caused quite a stir among the spectators.
Video footage captured the moment when two parachutes, adorned with American flags, were seen gliding above Lane Stadium, Virginia Tech’s home ground. They appeared to be on a similar path—while the first parachute, carrying a flag, passed safely over a video display, things took a turn with the second parachute.
This second parachute seemed to catch an unexpected gust of wind, leading to a dramatic collision with the stadium’s large “C” on the scoreboard.
As a result, emergency crews took over, and the kickoff, originally set for 3 p.m., was pushed back by more than an hour. They required a crane to assist in rescuing the stuck parachute.
The jumper’s parachute had lodged itself between the letters “C” and “H,” peeling back some of the cover and exposing the lights underneath. Meanwhile, an American flag from the parachute floated down onto a stand below.
Fortunately, the parachutist was rescued around 45 minutes later. Reports indicated that the jumper was in stable condition when retrieved.
Kickoff finally occurred just after 4 p.m., an hour later than initially planned.
Virginia Tech Athletics later released a statement expressing relief that the skydiver was safe and emphasizing their appreciation for the quick response from first responders, hospital personnel, and staff. They also mentioned that authorities did not believe the jumper needed hospital care following the incident.
While this dramatic turn of events delayed the game, it certainly added an unexpected chapter to the day.
