American First Legal Launches Parent and Student Action Center

On Tuesday, American First Legal announced the launch of its Parent and Student Action Center aimed at safeguarding parents’ rights and enhancing student protections in schools.

Gene Hamilton from America First Legal stated, “Parents have a fundamental obligation to raise the next generation, instilling values that promote greatness for future generations. Bureaucracy in schools should not hinder this greatness. The resources created by our team can significantly change outcomes for the better.”

The Action Center is described as a comprehensive hub that provides weekly curricula, union-led agendas, and practical resources to combat illegal discrimination in educational settings. This announcement coincides with ongoing discussions about parental rights and their role in shaping educational content and decision-making.

First Legal emphasizes that parents have a natural right to participate in their children’s education. Even Trump recognizes this concern.

The hub includes a toolkit that helps parents and students understand their rights under the Title VI Civil Rights Act of 1964, which prohibits discrimination based on race, color, or national origin in schools receiving federal funds, as well as Title IX, which prohibits gender discrimination. This toolkit offers guidance on how families can utilize these laws to challenge discrimination.

For instance, the Title VI Toolkit page explains the process for filing a written complaint within 180 days of an alleged incident. The complaint must include details like the complainant’s name, address, contact number, and information about the incident and those involved, as well as eyewitness accounts.

“Nothing is more cherished than the careful eyes of our parents,” remarked Julie Alexa Strauss, a senior advisor at First Legal. She further stated that they stand with families against what they consider harmful ideologies and illegal practices in schools.

The Action Center also provides resources aimed at safeguarding student rights under the Protection of Pupil Rights Amendment (PPRA), ensuring parental rights regarding federally funded educational materials, the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), which protects student records, and the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) that allows the public to request documents from government agencies.

Each toolkit comes equipped with template texts for parents and students. Ian Pryor, another senior legal advisor at First Legal, highlighted that the U.S. Supreme Court has reaffirmed the constitutional rights of parents and emphasized that the organization aims to empower them in opposing the special interests that influence public schools and use children as subjects in social and political experiments.
