Parents in Virginia upset after undocumented immigrant charged with inappropriately touching girls at school

Outrage in Fairfax County Over Student Molestation Case

Parents in Fairfax County, Virginia, are expressing their anger after a 19-year-old undocumented immigrant was accused of molesting a female student at a local high school.

“As a parent, it’s terrifying,” Stacey Langton shared. “When you send your daughters off to school, you expect them to be safe under the school’s supervision. But in this case, it’s clear they weren’t. I think every parent would be shaken to think their daughters could be sexually assaulted between classes.”

Israel Flores Ortiz, who came to the United States from El Salvador in 2024, faces nine counts of assault and battery related to the incident, which reportedly took place in the school hallway during a class transition.

“I have two daughters at this school,” Langton continued. “I immediately called my senior and asked her if she was aware of the situation. She replied, ‘Mom, I know. Everyone’s talking about it.’

Langton recounted how she also spoke with her ninth-grader, asking if any of her friends had been involved. “They said they hadn’t, thank God, but они were aware, and among the victims are their friends,” she added.

Langton, known for her activism surrounding educational issues in the area, particularly regarding explicit content in school materials, commented on the widespread anger among parents, a sentiment that transcends political affiliations. “Parents, even those who lean liberal, are really upset about this,” she noted.

She spoke about the reaction from other parents: “I was getting text messages when the news broke, people asking, ‘Did you hear about this? Isn’t that the school your daughters attend?'”

Langton asserted that this isn’t merely a political concern but a significant public safety issue affecting all parents. “This is about every daughter’s safety in the school, regardless of political stance,” she expressed passionately.

The situation also raises legal questions given prior Supreme Court rulings that allow undocumented immigrants to attend public schools, highlighting complexities in balancing safety and educational rights.

Despite the troubling allegations against Flores-Ortiz, Langton commended the school’s response. She mentioned that the school’s resource officers quickly initiated an investigation following the victim’s report, resulting in charges against the alleged perpetrator.

Fairfax County Public Schools issued a statement regarding the matter but refrained from divulging specific details due to privacy laws. They emphasized their commitment to student safety and the importance of investigating any reported incidents thoroughly.
