The parents of Laken Riley, a nursing student, recently killed Rep. Mike Collins (R-Ga.) said he will not attend President Biden’s State of the Union address Thursday on the University of Georgia campus, choosing instead to stay home and mourn his daughter’s death. That’s what he said.
Collins said he invited Riley’s parents, but they chose not to attend.
“Therefore, in honor of Mr. Laken and all American victims of illegal alien crimes, the seat reserved for my guest will remain open,” he posted on social media Wednesday.
Riley, 22, died while jogging on a path around the university campus. Jose Antonio Ibarra, a 26-year-old Venezuelan national who was living in the United States illegally, He was charged with her murder.

The killing sparked anger and contempt for Biden over his immigration policies.
“As Joe Biden tries to paint a rosy picture of the crime-ridden country he helped create, he will look up at the empty seats commemorating those we have lost to open borders,” Collins said. ” he wrote.
In response to the murder, Republican lawmakers introduced the Laken-Riley Act, which would require immigration authorities to detain undocumented immigrants accused of theft or robbery. Collins said the bill would help prevent similar tragedies that would occur as a result of southern open border policies.

The combined rules for consideration of the financial services bill and the Laken Riley Act passed Wednesday by a narrow 214-211 vote. No Democrats voted in favor.
The bill now moves to the next stage, a vote in the House of Commons, where it will be debated.
Prior to being charged with the felony, Ybarra had previously been arrested in New York on child endangerment charges, and in October 2023, Ybarra was arrested in Georgia for his brother’s death, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. He and Diego Ibarra were charged with misdemeanor shoplifting.

Under the bill’s provisions, the Laken-Riley Act would require U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to issue detainers to illegal aliens who are indicted or accused of theft or robbery in the country. It turns out.
