California Parents Arrested for Suspected Murder of Their Infant

Authorities have arrested parents Jake and Rebecca Halo in San Bernardino County on charges of murdering their seven-month-old son. This arrest came on a Friday, and the couple’s son, Emmanuel, was reported missing from a parking lot in Yucaipa back in August.

According to Sheriff Shannon Dykas, investigations revealed that the circumstances reported by the Halos did not actually happen. “The circumstances surrounding this investigation are tragic, and we will continue looking for Emmanuel,” Dykas stated. “We believe our judicial system will hold parents accountable.”

Rebecca Halo claimed to police on August 14 that someone attacked her and took her baby while she was at a Big 5 Sports Goods Store. She stated that when she woke up, both Emmanuel and the alleged attacker were gone. However, upon reviewing security footage, investigators found inconsistencies in her story, prompting them to shift the case from a missing child in need of investigation to a more serious inquiry.

Last week, authorities executed a search warrant at the couple’s home in Cabazon, where they also removed a two-year-old child who was placed in Riverside County’s conservation services. Jake Halo’s attorney noted that extensive searches were conducted on the property, including garden excavations and the use of police dogs. The parents provided detectives with a locked mobile phone and their vehicle for inspection.

It was recently reported that the Halos were arrested for murder under California Penal Code 187 as the search for Emmanuel continues. Jake Halo has a criminal history, including a guilty plea in 2023 for child cruelty. Additionally, this week his ex-wife attempted to secure a restraining order to restrict his visitation rights with their oldest child.

Deputies stated they believe other potential suspects were not involved in Emmanuel’s death, but despite extensive searching and numerous tips, the infant’s body has yet to be located.
