Unlike other fighters who felt forced to give up before fighting to the end, Yildiz Kahraman came into the fight using several different move sets.
But it still wasn’t enough, as Yuting won all five rounds (5-0) to advance to a match against Polish boxer Julia Szeremeta.
Despite the victory, bronze medal winner Yildiz Kahraman, like the other athletes who lost to Yuting, openly made the X gesture with his index finger and moved his hand back and forth, representing the XX chromosomes carried by women with “normal” levels of testosterone.

IBA president Umar Kremlev said at the time that DNA tests on Yuting’s mother “proved that she has XY chromosomes”.
“Yuting and Kherif are not transgender – they were born female, but tests showed that their DNA contains XY chromosomes, which are normally associated with men, rather than XX chromosomes, which are normally associated with women. This means that their testosterone levels are closer to those of men who can punch 2.6 times harder than women,” he said. Yahoo!News.
Kherif is an Algerian boxer whose gender has similarly been called into question throughout this year’s Olympics.
Neither fighter has lost a round in their three previous bouts.
IBA Executive Director Chris Roberts said on Monday the IBA would not make these test results public, but suggested “you can read between the lines”. [on] Its meaning.”
Despite the IBA’s findings, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) has repeatedly defended the two boxers, as it conducts separate qualification tests and has banned the IBA from competing in the Olympics.
“The Algerian boxer was born as a woman, is registered as a woman, lives as a woman, boxes as a woman and has a woman’s passport,” IOC spokesman Mark Adams said of Kherif.
Additionally, IOC President Thomas Bach said the IOC would not get involved in the “culture wars”.
“In this context, it is completely unacceptable that hate speech, attacks and abuse are rampant on social media, fuelled by this plan,” he added.
Several sports, including the World Aquatics Championships, World Athletics Championships and the International Cycling Union, have updated their gender rules in the past three years.
