An investigation has been launched after a train passenger was forced to run several meters along a platform in west London with his hand stuck inside the door of a moving train.
The Rail Accident Investigation Bureau (RAIB) announced on December 24 that a passenger attempting to board the Elizabeth Line shortly after midnight had his hand caught in the door as the train departed.
He was then forced to run alongside the moving train for several meters until railway staff working on the platform at Ealing Broadway station pulled him away.
A nearby passenger alerted the driver, and the train stopped after traveling approximately 17 meters. The passenger was reported to have sustained minor injuries, RAIB confirmed.
The “trap and drag” incident, which occurred at around 12:07 a.m. on November 24, is the latest incident in which a train passenger has had to run parallel to a train with his hand or arm trapped in a station door. be. The RAIB investigation will consider factors such as whether there was any influence on the actions of those involved and how the risks to passengers from boarding and disembarking Elizabeth Line trains were managed. It plans to publish its findings, including recommendations to improve safety.
