Passengers on Delta flight shout at a traveler who won't end a phone call: 'Get off the plane'

A passenger on a Delta Airlines flight was removed from a plane in Miami after he refused to end a phone call prior to takeoff. This refusal resulted in delays that frustrated other passengers.

The event took place on Monday during a flight scheduled from Miami to Atlanta, as confirmed by the airline. Delta reported that flight attendants had repeatedly asked all passengers to hang up their phones while the plane was taxiing, but the situation escalated when this passenger didn’t comply.

“The safety of our customers and crew is our top priority, and Delta has zero tolerance for disruptive behavior,” the airline stated. They also apologized to other passengers for the inconvenience and delays.

The aircraft returned to the gate, leading to the removal of the passengers, and it eventually took off about an hour later than planned, according to flight trackers.

Videos capturing the scene showed other travelers expressing their displeasure over the situation, with some urging the disruptive passenger to be more considerate. One passenger was heard yelling, “Get off the plane,” as the flight attendant announced that everyone would have to exit.

Another voice could be heard questioning why one individual should be allowed to disrupt the entire flight. “So he doesn’t listen when we all should?” asked a fellow passenger, while someone else pointed out that the offender was seated at the front.

Travel expert and blogger Gary Leff emphasized the importance of following flight attendants’ instructions, noting that FAA regulations generally mandate passengers to switch their devices to airplane mode once the door closes. He explained that the risk isn’t so much from one phone but rather from many phones sending signals concurrently.

“No one thinks one iPhone will destroy a 787,” Leff commented, adding, “The concern is… that these issues can arise when operating at scale with many devices used by all passengers.” He expressed a lingering curiosity about the mindset of those who resist complying with such requests, noting that it could lead to unfortunate outcomes.
