Passerby saves woman trapped in her car submerged in the Texas canal

A good Samaritan jumps into a Texas irrigation canal to save a woman trapped in a sinking car.

The driver, a 49-year-old woman, was traveling southeast in Electra City when she lost control of the vehicle.

She skidded off the road and plummeted into the South Side Canal. News Channel 6 reported.

The car was submerged in the canal, and water was flowing through the canal, so it's possible the car was caught in the current. Instead, a man who worked nearby came to her rescue.

The driver pried down his window and waved his arms for help. The stranger noticed her, stepped into the canal, and first calmed her down as best he could, then helped her back to shore.

Her car was later recovered from the lake covered in mud, dents and damage, including a nearly caved-in windshield.

Officials said the driver could have died if the stranger had not intervened to help.
